Providing Community Education and Service Learning
The National Community Education Association (NCEA) is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) membership association founded in Flint, Michigan, in 1966. Its mission is to provide leadership to those who build learning communities in response to individual and community needs. NCEA has resources for building and developing community learning centers.
National Service-Learning Partnership. The Partnership is dedicated to advancing service-learning as a core part of every young person’s education. Service-learning is a teaching method that engages young people in solving problems within their schools and communities as part of their academic studies or other type of intentional learning activity.
Corporation for National and Community Service. AmeriCorps volunteers can provide great service to afterschool programs. This site links to AmeriCorps as well as Senior Corps and Learn and Serve America.
Coalition for Community Schools. The Coalition for Community Schools is an alliance of national, state and local organizations involved in education K-16, youth development, community planning and development, family support, health and human services, government and philanthropy as well as national, state and local community school networks. The Coalition advocates for community schools as the vehicle for strengthening schools, families and communities so that, together, they can improve student learning.
