Oklahoma Science Olympiad 2013

This past weekend was the Oklahoma Science Olympiad.  Ten middle schools and three high school from Central and Eastern Oklahoma competed against one another in twenty-three different events.  Many of the students had been preparing for this day for an entire year before school, afterschool and even showing up to school during their breaks!  One eager participant from CAPPS Middle school in the Putnam City School District was happy to finally be in middle school, so he could go from watching the Olympiad to competing in it.  He was very confident that his bridge would do well in the Boomilever competition.  His future plans are to become a carpenter like his dad, or an Architectural Engineer.  Just like a sporting event, the Oklahoma Science Olympiad is a family affair.  Absolutely STEMtastic!!!

Student, teachers, friends and family members were on the University of Central Oklahoma campus to cheer on their favorite Science Olympian.  Both public and private schools compete in events like: Mousetrap Cars, Disease Detectives, Metric Mastery, Helicopters, Boomilever, Sounds of Music, and Road  Scholar.  Each of the Olympians try their best and give it their all with hopes of competing in the National Science Olympiad this summer.  Judges from Oklahoma State Department of Education STEM Team, Oklahoma University Health Science Center FHSPP, OU Sooner Flight Academy and the Putnam City School District measures and times each event to the nearest micrometer or hundredths of a second.  There's some stiff competition in this years Olympiad! Do you have what it takes to become an Oklahoma Science OLYMPIAD?
